ENERGY AUDIT E-REPORT
Energy & Architecture
The objectives of this project:
-
To identify the principles of energy efficient systems and overall practice of potential energy savings through inspection.
-
To evaluate energy consumption and the implementation of its strategies to reduce energy usage in design to deliver low energy architectural design.
Task
This assignment emphasizes the role of a walkthrough audit as a process used to establish an overall practice of the potential energy savings through visual presentation. HVAC, lighting, building maintenance and other factors affecting energy consumption of the building (in this context our own home). We will be carrying out a field measurement to establish the incoming load profile, major energy usage (segmentation), HVAC and lighting system of your own home. Followed by suggestions on the Renewable Management System (Passive Cooling/Lighting, Retrofitting Lighting system with LED light source/dimmer, Effective Waste Management, Controlling Heat/Glare with Façade or device) to achieve energy efficiency.
PROGRESS OUTCOME
In this project, I carried out an walk-through Audit process of my house and produced an Audit report on my house and proposed strategies to achieve energy savings through focus on specific topics, such as:
1. Façade and Climate Based Profile of the House
2. Energy Load Profiles of Electrical Appliances
3. Energy Consumption Pattern
4. Energy System and Energy Saving Potential
5. Energy Management and Recommendations to Save Energy
In this project, I studied my electric bill and worked out a list of electrical appliances in my house, and drafted the inventory table to identify the energy usage in each space, by each occupant and each electrical applaince. I then compared weekdays and weekend energy usage and cost then identified what caused the differences and possible CO² emissions. I also reported the observation of occupant activities and behavior towards energy usage and savings. Finally, I suggested potential energy saving measures to reduce monthly energy consumption in the household. My findings and research were laid out in a Visual E-Report as follows.
FINAL OUTCOME
REFLECTION
TAYLOR’S GRADUATE CAPABILITIES
Through this project, I identified the principles of energy efficient systems and overall practice of potential energy savings through inspection and thorough research. I evaluated energy consumption and the implementation of strategies to reduce energy usage in design to deliver a low energy architectural design. Overall, I came to have a better understanding in energy efficient systems. I learnt about ways to cut down the electricity bill and to avoid energy wastage.
Through this module, I learnt to thoroughly describe the impact of the built environment on the global scene and understand energy demands in buildings. I can now clearly identify the principles of energy efficient systems in architecture and building technology. I am now able to apply strategies of renewable energy to deliver a low energy architectural design.
