SDG ARCHITECTURE:
ALIGNING ARCHITECTURE TO SDG GOALS
Sustainable Design, Policies & Regulations
The objectives of this project:
-
To project is to create awareness of the 17SDG goals and specifically the goals that are associated with Built Environment/Architecture (BE/Arch).
-
To explore and understand how the BE/Arch is responding to particular Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Task
This project mandated an individual exploration of a building chosen collectively by the group, with my selection being a post-2005 structure of personal interest. We were to identified a distinct Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) related to their building, ensuring diversity. A critical aspect involved physically visiting the building to capture over 50% of high-quality images personally, complemented by visuals from acknowledged published sources.

The project involved extracting the chosen SDG goal, its targets, and indicators. I then explored how Building Environment/Architecture responds to this goal, drawing on insights from the Architecture and Environment module. The building was scrutinized in relation to the chosen SDG, with diagrams illustrating specific design strategies and their alignment with the SDG target.
PROGRESS OUTCOME
When I received this final individual assignment, I started to do some research on SDG. After deeply research my chosen SDG was SDG 7 which is Affordable and Clean Energy. It aims to "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all." Few days later, I plan a day out for site visiting at MyTown Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur to collect data and analysis of the site regarding to my SDG 7. Once I complete the site visit, I compile all the information and do some research online of MyTown Shopping Centre. Finally, I come out with the information and compose all in one A3 landscape board.

TAYLOR’S GRADUATE CAPABILITIES
Through this assignment, we were able to investigate how architecture can serve as the foundation for achieving Sustainable Design Goals. In order to create sustainable communities, designers can offer fundamental concepts and legislative recommendations. When designers collaborate, they can foster a candid discussion that leads to solutions and future directions. The problems that must be solved to create a better, more sustainable future are outlined in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The world needs to move towards achieving these goals by 2030, leaving no one behind. The built environment, in particular, architecture practice, is linked to all goals—and crucially, not at an aspirational level but rather through actualized buildings, settlements, cities, and strategies, both locally and globally.
I gained more knowledge about sustainable design, philosophies, and the SDGs through this module. I thoroughly researched the assignment and assessment material, and I learned a great deal of new information that I will use to inform my future building designs. This module covered building regulations, fundamental building materials and construction, environmental concerns, and building services.
