P1A: Site Analysis & Design Response
Architectural Design lV
The objectives of this project:
-
Identify and analyse environmental qualities and contextual needs of a site and apply ideas
of environmental sustainability. -
Design and create architectural spaces with consideration of environmental poetics in
relation to the basic natural context and existing built context (harness environmental
qualities of the site to inform design which impact on users’ experiences.
Task
In assigned tutorial groups, students will conduct site visits to identify the physical as well as the intangible qualities that shape the character of the site. Engagement with site users will establish the needs of the community at the site. As the Design Response of the Site Analysis stage, students will work with their tutorial group to draw up a new plan for the demarcated site area by planning and designing a Neighbourhood Park Plan, which will serve as the base for Project 1C: Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
PROGRESS OUTCOME
In Project 1a, we need to understand an urban farm for design purposes, the class will form "Task Groups" with diverse focuses. One group will meticulously map and model the site, while another analyzes user demographics and accessibility needs. Delving deeper, other groups explore farm operations, natural and built features, and even the sensory experience of the space. Data collection employs sketches, photography, recordings, and interviews, tapping into both direct observations and official sources. Ultimately, this data will be analyzed to generate design narratives that consider the site's unique environmental and user-centric needs, resulting in a well-integrated and functional urban farm.
To conduct analysis of the given data and contextual information, focusing on understanding the physical characteristics as well as the qualities of the context and translating these into a set of preliminary design ideas in relation to the proposed Neighbourhood Park and Learning Center in Project 2.

REFLECTION
TAYLOR’S GRADUATE CAPABILITIES
Through our site analysis group assignment, I learnt to cooperate and work together with other individuals to complete our task. I realized that good teamwork is the key to a good outcome. I have been able to manage myself and complete my assignment on time. I reflected on myself after every tutorial session and worked hard to improve my design in order to achieve a more satisfying outcome.
