P1B: Design Esquisse - Learning Pod
Architectural Design lV
The objectives of this project:
-
To develop awareness of environmental sustainability in architectural design.
-
To develop the student’s ability to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and
social needs, as well as make poetry with materials and spaces. -
To develop understandings on human scale, proportion, ergonomics, and materiality.
Task
Project 1B is an esquisse which deals with the understanding of materiality and environmental
poetics in relation to context. In assigned tutorial groups, we will break up into smaller groups
(3-4 students) and design a Learning Pod meant to serve the community to foster and nurture the
learning environment within a community park in a suburban neighborhood.
FINAL OUTCOME
While Project 1A focuses on the overall community garden plan, Project 1B zooms in on how material choices influence user experience within that plan. Students will form smaller teams within their existing groups to design an "Learning Pod" - a mini experiment exploring how materials can shape form for plant cultivation activities. how does plant, play, paople integrate with frame, solid and strcuture all aligned with the upcoming Project 2's program. This is a chance to get hands-on and creative, exploring materiality's role in enhancing our connection with growing and caring for plants in the Kebun Komuniti.

TAYLOR’S GRADUATE CAPABILITIES
First project taught me about design esquisse architecture. I learned a great deal about spatial design along with people I knew but never worked with before. More than just a group project, our exploration of design esquisse architecture left an indelible mark on each of us, nurturing a profound appreciation for the fusion of artistic expression and construction. The experience expanded our horizons and instilled in us a renewed passion for pushing the boundaries of architectural design to touch the souls of those who inhabit and admire our creations.
I also have gained valuable skills in analyzing architectural designs and effectively translating my understanding into diagrams and models. The opportunity to delve into the materiality and structural stability of our chosen structure, as well as other renowned structures, has been highly beneficial.
