FAMOUS ARCHITECT'S BUILDING
Building Construction & Material
The objectives of this project:
-
To distinguish between architectural and structural materials.
-
To describe types of building materials used for buildings.
-
To demonstrate the installation of building materials on buildings.
Task
We had to pick a well-known architect and choose one of their structures as a case study. Our study must include the installation of one material, five applications of architectural materials, and two applications of structural materials. We must discuss the reasoning behind the choice of materials, which is frequently related to the architect's concept.
PROGRESS OUTCOME
Architect's Building Research
Upon reviewing the list of architects provided in the brief, I found myself particularly intrigued by the work of Norman Foster, specifically Willis Building. To gain a preliminary understanding of the building, I conducted initial research, delving into its background, architectural features, and historical significance. This initial exploration allowed me to establish a foundational knowledge of Willis Building, providing a solid starting point for further in-depth research and analysis.
Research Background
To effectively manage the requirements and data, I initially listed them straight in Canva. This allowed for easy reference and quick access to the necessary information as I proceeded with compiling it onto the board. By organizing the data in a table, I ensured that each element was properly accounted for and readily accessible during the compilation process.
Board Compilation
To streamline the organization of all the gathered information, I used Canva to create a visually appealing presentation by incorporating the collected information. Considering the color scheme of the chosen building, I selected a combination gradient color of white and blue to align the visual aesthetics with the building's color palette. This cohesive color scheme helps create a visually harmonious and cohesive presentation.
FINAL OUTCOME
REFLECTION
TAYLOR’S GRADUATE CAPABILITIES
Through my research on buildings designed by famous architects, I have gained valuable insights into various design approaches. I have observed how aesthetics and functionality are intertwined in these architectural masterpieces. Additionally, I have also discovered new construction methods and gained knowledge about the installation of materials used in the specific building I focused on, Willis Building. I firmly believe that this newfound knowledge will prove to be invaluable as I pursue a career in architecture, providing me with a solid foundation for future design projects.

During the course of this assignment, I have further explored the capabilities of Canva, even after using it for a year. It has allowed me to enhance my skills in compiling information in a visually appealing manner, while ensuring that the readability of the content on the boards is not compromised. I have come to understand the impact of color schemes on the overall presentation, as they evoke different emotions in viewers. Brighter colors, for example, can create a sense of positivity, charm, and intrigue, thereby captivating the attention of the audience. This newfound knowledge will undoubtedly assist me in creating visually captivating and engaging presentations in future projects.
