Preliminary Studies, is a preparatory task that investigates the character of a place (town or city) and architecture for place-making through the ‘Townscape Assessment’. Townscape Appraisal is a method of evaluating the visual and aesthetic qualities of a town or urban area. It is a process that involves assessing the character, identity, and distinctiveness of a town or urban area and identifying its strengths, weaknesses, and potential for improvement.

This module is an exploration of passive sustainable strategies in architectural design. It looks at the different elements that make up architecture and how the integration of passive design strategies with these elements contribute to the quality of spatial experience within a building.

INTEGRATED PROJECT

The management of Taylor’s University is planning to build a high-rise building to cater for the incredibly high number of students. The building would consist of different zones to accommodate different functions including basement parking, lecture theatres and classrooms, and students’ accommodation, complete with the building’s own centralized air-conditioning system, active fire protection system, mechanical ventilation system and mechanical transportation system.
